“The Spotlight” – Geelong Lutheran College St John’s Newtown

2021-08-19

Like all schools, Geelong Lutheran College, St John’s Newtown has thoroughly enjoyed times of being together at school. Re-engaging students with their teachers and friends has continued to be a focus and part of this is through the wonderful variety of lunch clubs.

GLC St John’s offers a range of lunchtime activities including Lego Club, Library games and a Drama Club. This year we have introduced two new clubs in the past term. They are a Comic Club for our Year 5 and 6 students and STEM Club for students of all ages to participate in.

COMIC CLUB

This is a place where Year 5 and 6 students come together to draw and write comics and other artworks or stories during Wednesday lunchtimes. Each week, we view a short video focusing on a particular skill, such as character design, how to draw faces or wordbuilding. The rest of our time together is used to work individually or collaboratively with each other on whatever art project we would like!

STEM Club – is an opportunity for students to design, build and create. Students of all ages are welcome to come with their friends to cooperate and collaborate in a fun environment.

STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM

Our Year 4 students participate in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. Students learn to seed, plant and harvest fruit and vegetables whilst also cooking and tasting the produce each week. One of the most popular aspects of this program is looking after our chickens, who have been laying many eggs lately!

Our school community loves to participate in whole school events and is currently busily preparing for their concert at the end of the Term. We hope this year we can present it live!

Our amazing team truly nurtures our young people and shares God’s word with dedication and joy.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3
