4th August 2026
Dear friends of the St Paul’s Henty School Community,
On behalf of the School Board, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Jonathan Schmidt as the new Principal of St Paul’s Henty, commencing in January 2027.
Mr Schmidt is a highly regarded educator and leader who is deeply committed to Lutheran education and its mission of nurturing young people in faith, learning and service. He is currently a primary school classroom teacher at Victory Lutheran College, Wodonga, and has held several significant leadership positions, including Leader of Christian Studies across the College and Interim Head of Primary School.
Mr Schmidt has completed a Graduate Certificate in Leadership through Lutheran Education Australia and brings a highly relational leadership style that complements his passion for innovation, contemporary learning practices and educational excellence. He is committed to building strong relationships with students, staff, families and the wider community.
A graduate of St John’s Primary School, Jindera, and St Paul’s College, Walla Walla, Mr Schmidt is a dedicated Christian who actively serves as a worship leader within the Burrumbuttock Lutheran Parish. His appointment as Principal represents a natural progression in his leadership journey and a continuation of his commitment to Christian service. He is excited about the opportunity to lead and serve the St Paul’s Henty community.
“I am honoured to be appointed Principal of St Paul’s Henty and grateful for the opportunity to lead such a respected school community. From everything I have heard, St Paul’s Henty is a special place, and I am thrilled to be joining the community. I look forward to getting to know the students and families, sharing in their journey, and embracing the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
Having grown up in a rural setting at Jindera, Mr Schmidt understands the importance of community connection and values the unique strengths of regional schools.
Mr Schmidt still resides in Jindera with his wife Lauren and their children, Jimmy and Emmy, who attend St John’s Lutheran School. As a family, they enjoy exploring the outdoors, kayaking and water skiing, share a love of music, and serve within their local church community.
The Board was fortunate to receive applications from several exceptional candidates through a comprehensive selection process. We are confident that Mr Schmidt is the right person to lead St Paul’s into its next chapter and warmly congratulate him on his appointment.
A comprehensive transition process will commence during Term 4, supported by Mr Colin Minke from LEVNT (Lutheran Education Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania), the school’s leadership team and the School Board.
Please join us as we warmly welcome Mr Schmidt and his family to our school community.
Yours sincerely,
Joanne Knobel Board Chair
