Spotlight – Geelong Lutheran College, Newtown & Armstrong Creek

2026-06-25

Term 2 has been full of learning, events and exciting developments at both Geelong Lutheran College campuses: St John’s Newtown and Armstrong Creek. Here’s an update on what our students, staff and community have been up to this term:

New Leaders Appointed

Geelong Lutheran College is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Davies as the next Principal of Geelong Lutheran College.

Mr Davies, who is currently serving as Principal of Carmichael College in Brisbane, will commence at the start of Term 4, 2026 and succeeds Ms Sue Ellis who steps down at the end of Term 2 after 8½ years of exceptional service to the College.

During Term 3, the College will be under the leadership of Dr Tsae Wong as Acting Principal covering the period between Ms Ellis’ departure and Mr Davies commencing in the role. Dr Wong is the former Principal of Trinity Lutheran College on the Gold Coast.

The GLC community looks forward to working with Mr Davies as he leads the College into the next chapter of its development.

Inaugural French Study Tour

GLC Armstrong Creek’s first French Immersion Study Tour with Year 10, 11 and 12 students, alongside students from Heathdale Christian College, was an unforgettable experience rich in culture, language and connection.

Our students explored various locations throughout France over two weeks, all while practicing their French in real-life settings. Highlights included iconic sites such as the Eifel Tower, Versailles and Carcassonne, as well as cooking classes and travelling like locals on the metro.

The group had a fantastic time and have returned with countless memories and greater knowledge of French culture and language.

Sharing the Planet

Geelong Lutheran College was blessed to have Celia from Australian Lutheran World Services stop by both campuses to tackle the concepts of fairness, equality, rights and social justice with our Year 3s.

Our students were challenged to think about the idea of fairness from their own experience and from real life stories from ALWS, encouraging them to consider a larger perspective including the access of people around the world to basic needs such as clean water, food, sanitation and education.

Arts & Technology Week

This year’s Secondary House Arts & Technology Week was a celebration of our students’ creativity and flare for design.

The week had it all: baking competitions, drone races, an exhibition featuring Visual Art, Product Design and Textiles pieces, and music and dance performances. Year 7 students then rotated through a variety of Arts & Technology sessions on the final day, providing them with a taste of the subjects they can study in Years 8 and beyond.

New facilities opening in Term 3

Both GLC campuses will have shiny new facilities opening in early Term 3.

Works will get underway during the holidays to install a brand-new playground at the GLC St John’s Newtown campus. Ideas for the playground came from last year’s Student Representative Council, who played an instrumental role in the project’s design phase. Thank you to the campus’ Parents + Friends Committee for their fundraising support for this project.

At the GLC Armstrong Creek campus, construction has just wrapped up on Concordia, the eagerly awaited new Resource Hub. Concordia will include dedicated Primary and Secondary resource centres/library spaces, two classrooms, meeting rooms, staff facilities, and a connection to the Year 11/12 centre, Ngarrwa. Concordia was jointly funded by GLC and the Victorian State Government.
