Every Story Matters

2026-06-25

As educators in Lutheran schools, you know the power of education to transform lives. Every day you encourage, support and inspire young people to see their God-given worth and potential. Through your work, students learn not only academic skills, but also compassion, justice and service.

These same values are at the heart of ALWS's PRECIOUS campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of schools and supporters like you, thousands of girls are being protected from child marriage and given the opportunity to attend school.

The campaign has recently been expanded through a new Australian Government 5:1 grant, enabling even greater support for girls with disability who face additional barriers to education and safety. Your support, multiplied by the 5:1 grant, will mean even more children have choice and a future.

Fawzia's story is a testament to the difference one caring action can make. Thanks to your support, she has accessed the therapy, education and assistance that have changed the course of her life. Today, she is pursuing her dream of learning and building a future filled with possibility. Her journey reminds us that behind every statistic is a real person with hopes, dreams and potential.

“I am proud. I regained use of my right hand.

I can reach, grasp and release objects again.

I can walk, go to school, carry my things,

And do everything by myself now.”

At ALWS we regularly share stories from refugees, displaced families and vulnerable communities around the world. These stories help us remember that global challenges are never just numbers on a page—they are the lived experiences of real people created and loved by God.

This year's Refugee Week (14–20 June) theme, "A Million Stories," echoes this important truth.

Did you receive the Refugee Week resources through the ALWS Teachers Network newsletter? We hope they are helpful in encouraging meaningful conversations in your classroom. we'd love to hear from you so we can ensure you're connected with future resources and opportunities

Finally, if you're looking for a simple way to make an ongoing difference, consider joining the Just One Hour family at justonehour.org.au. By giving the equivalent of one hour's wage each week, or an amount of your choice, you can help provide education, protection and hope to some of the world's most vulnerable people.

Thank you for the extraordinary work you do. Every lesson taught, every student encouraged, and every story shared is helping to shape a generation that has empathy and cares deeply for its neighbour—both locally and globally.
