1 Peter 5:7
There are seasons in life when the weight of responsibility feels particularly heavy. We carry concern for our families, our students, our colleagues, our communities, and the countless commitments that fill our days. Often, we become so accustomed to carrying these burdens that we forget we were never meant to carry them alone.
Peter’s words are both simple and profound: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Notice that he does not tell us to ignore our worries, minimise them, or pretend they do not exist. Instead, he invites us to bring them honestly before God. The reason is not that we are weak, but that God is compassionate.
Lutheran theology places great emphasis on God’s grace. We are not loved because we have everything under control. We are not valued because we never struggle. We are God’s beloved children because of what Christ has done for us. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus has opened the way for us to live in confidence, knowing that nothing can separate us from God’s love.
This Gospel promise is especially important when life feels uncertain. We may not know how every challenge will unfold, but we do know the One who walks with us through them. Christ is present in our joys and disappointments, our successes and failures, our certainty and our doubt.
Today, take a moment to pause. Consider what you have been carrying lately. Then hear again the invitation of Scripture: cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Not because He must.
Not because you have earned it.
But because that is who He is.
A God of grace, mercy, and steadfast love, who meets His people not with demands, but with open arms.
