Free to Flourish: When Growing Deep comes to life
When Growing Deep was first developed, the final element—Excellence in Outcomes—was intentionally included but left undefined. This decision reflected a desire to first understand what genuine excellence looks like when the preceding elements work together to shape a faith-filled, rich, and supportive teaching and learning environment.
Several years later, this vision found expression in Free to Flourish—a phrase that captures the excellence evident in our outcomes. Grounded in Lutheran theology, it reflects a deep belief that God has intentionally created each person, uniquely gifted to live in relationship with Him and with others.
When all elements of Growing Deep operate together as an interconnected system, the result is a community where individuals are truly free to flourish.
As office staff, we are privileged to spend time in schools and witness this flourishing firsthand. It is both affirming and inspiring to see students learning and growing as they are encouraged to recognise and develop their God-given talents and strengths. Across a wide range of experiences—taiko drumming, reader’s theatre, public speaking, choir, drama performances, and rich academic pursuits—students are becoming increasingly compassionate, purposeful, relational, and adventurous.
We now understand and celebrate these outcomes of Lutheran education through the lens of Free to Flourish—recognising the uniqueness and growth of every learner.
What a profound and empowering opportunity we have as educators: to nurture the growth of each of God’s unique creations every day.
Whatever your vocation within the school community, we all contribute to this shared purpose. Thank you for the important role you play in enabling every learner to flourish.
