We are all diligently learning about Generative AI and trying to discern how it might, could and should impact the learning experience in our learning communities. A framework has been released as a joint initiative of the European Commission and the OECD that is focused on how to help learners develop AI literacy. It is vital that we help learners to discern the how and the why rather than leaping straight to the what of AI.
If we are to reach the goal where Generative AI is used by learners as a tool they operate to support deep learning and practical application of their own knowledge and understandings then we need to focus on developing AI literacy. The ability to understand, use and critically evaluate AI technologies and their impact on society.
