In Lutheran schools, we work in partnership to see young people free to flourish—growing as compassionate, purposeful, adventurous and relational learners who know they are loved by God and called to serve the world.
Creating authentic content to support your curriculum units, sharing stories with a global context, helping to create awareness and inspire advocacy is how ALWS can help partner with schools to foster our young people to develop and flourish.
At this time of year, schools are in full swing finalising assessments, planning for next year and all the million things that need to happen before the last day.
In amongst all this, schools continue to focus on growing students’ awareness and compassion.
Gifts of Grace activities, baubles and displays are visually present in classrooms and front offices, displaying their school values and ethos to school communities and reinforcing the spirit of Christmas. Thank you for making these gifts come alive for your students.
Ruby – a year 6 student shares how her school’s involvement with ALWS within their curriculum has influenced her.
Every year I donate to ALWS. The first time I did this was in year 4 when ALWS came to our school and I was inspired to help.
Each year I get some pocket money from either my birthday or from chores that I do to earn more money. I like to give this to ALWS to give gifts to other children.
From the first time that I heard about it and learnt that I could send a child to school for $25, I thought that this was something I could do.
The first year I gave $50 so that I could send 2 children to school.
This year I raised money from selling my uncle's eggs. My brother and I walked up and down our neighbourhood streets knocking on doors to sell the eggs. We made $96.
My share was $48. I wanted to donate the whole lot to ALWS.
I just want to help."
