Recently we combined our final Leaders Network day and hosted it at the AI in Classrooms conference held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Across the 2 days we had 20 leaders attend the conference where a number of presenters focused on a range of perspectives for how to embed aspects of AI into classroom practice.
We enjoyed presentations by the following presenters and would encourage engaging with their work:
- Brett Solakis
- Coby Reynolds
- Ben Lawless
- Michelle Ware
- Brendan Jackson
The overriding message of the conference was consistent amongst several of the speakers: As your school engages with AI ensure that you understand what you want to solve and then decide whether AI is the best placed solution. Do not let AI (or the organisations who drive it) tell you the problems it can solve for you.
Other messages were:
- Cheating is an assessment issue not an AI issue.
- Use trained agents or bots to help you be more productive. AI is not a time saving tool, it is a productivity tool.
- "Do the creative work and abdicate only the laborious work" - Dr Ben Lawless
- Focus on helping teachers create excellent prompts that clearly stipulate the preferred learning design and pedagogical methods that align with school teaching and learning philosophy. Prompts should include as a minimum: conceptual understanding, skills, knowledge, curriculum standards, strategies, outputs.
