“Mental Health is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going” – Noam Shpancer
Mental health is an issue that is being addressed all around the world, especially as most metrics of mental health are deteriorating. As people spend on average a third of their time at work, the workplace plays an important role in people’s experiences of wellbeing. Caring for mental health needs to be more than asking “R U OK?” one day annually. To truly care for ourselves, our friends and our colleagues it needs to become a core part of our culture and practices. Communicating struggling needs to be met with listening, compassion and a knowledge of available support resources. Knowing where and how to access assistance is essential.
AccessEAP is the formal assistance program that LEVNT schools offer to all school employees. While AccessEAP provides formal face-to-face and over-the-phone counselling sessions, there are also helpful informal resources that can be accessed through their website (www.accesseap.com.au) and app.
AccessEAP has a free app called “EAP in Focus” available which contains some helpful articles, guided mediation sessions as well as information on accessing counselling services. This app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
The articles written by AccessEAP include topics such as:
• strategies to develop a mentally healthy office and culture
• noticing signs of employee burnout
• tips on how to have authentic conversations about mental health, and
• the importance of workplace mental health ambassadors.
There are many additional free resources for promoting wellbeing in the workplace, if you need further information or advice, contact LEVNT or access one of the links below:
