Our Lutheran schools have always had, and are very fortunate to continue to have, dedicated, talented and faithful staff who work to inspire our students for a life or learning and faith.
As part of negotiation of the 2018 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, a request was made for LEVNT to develop a Workload Guideline for teachers. This document and presentation were created in response to this request following a lengthy process of investigation and testing with school leadership.
The model was created to allow flexibility within schools and to develop equity across schools in the region.
Teachers undertake a diverse range of work that extend beyond the classroom, and this model attempts to encapsulate these complexities and expectations. Components such as face-to-face teaching, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities must be considered together when determining the reasonableness of a teacher’s overall workload.
It is important to distinguish between the work that can be required of a teacher and the work a teacher may choose to undertake. As far as practicable, work should be equitably distributed, and the work of an individual teacher is not to be unreasonable or excessive.
